Newsletter 06-27-07
IAJE Michigan
Communications

Hello Everyone:

This is my final newsletter as state president and I wish to update you on a few items.

It is my pleasure to announce the new Michigan Executive Board.  Beginning July 1, these tremendously talented individuals will serve as your state officers.

Danny Jordan (Oakland University) – President

Bill Sears (Interlochen Arts Academy) – President-Elect

Bob Nixon (Grand Valley State University) – Vice-President

Scott Cowan (Western Michigan University) – Secretary

Kevin Dobreff (Grand Rapids Community College) – Treasurer

Please take a moment to thank them and encourage them in their duties and pursuits.

During the past three years we have made tremendous strides in our efforts to further jazz in the state of Michigan.  We now have a wonderful relationship with MSBOA, a pilot Jazz Festival program between IAJE and MSBOA, a commitment for more jazz events at the Michigan Music Educators Conference, a more visible presence at the Detroit International Jazz Festival, better communication and cooperation throughout the state, a great state unit  chapter website.

Of high distinction, our state unit chapter earned the highest chapter designation of 'Exemplary' at the 2007 IAJE New York Conference last January.  I would like to thank each and every one of you for your efforts in making these and all things jazz happen in this great state.

Several of the above items will be further outlined in Danny’s first newsletter as president.  He has been working diligently to further several of the above-mentioned endeavors.  I must say that we are in great hands with Danny Jordan as president.  He has and will continue to work tirelessly on our behalf.  Thanks Danny.

Please continue to use and spread the word about our amazing state website.  Our webmaster, Denis Naranjo has created an extremely informative and versatile website.  Please use it every opportunity you get.   Thanks Denis.

At this point I would like to thank each of you for all that you do for jazz and jazz education in Michigan.  It has been a pleasure to serve you the past three years and I look forward to serving on the board as your past president.  Please feel free to contact me at anytime.

Thank You!

Brian Coyle
