  • B. Coyle urges everyone to utilize our excellent IAJE Michigan website, and to pass along a mention to other state education colleagues you encounter.  We have requested to be linked to MSBOA (Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association).

IAJE Michigan Chapter Update:
  • B. Coyle notes the IAJE Michigan chapter is now one of eleven states to be officially recognized as “exemplary status” by the IAJE national office.
  • The IAJE national website will be offering many new services and options.  Some will be interactive.  Authorized access will be rolled out through IAJE membership.

Open Discussion:
  • There is exciting progress being made regarding an administrative and promotional collaboration between IAJE Michigan and MSBOA.
  • B. Nixon acknowledged B. Coyle’s outstanding work of bringing Michigan’s IAJE chapter from an almost charter loss to exemplary status.
  • R. Casteel asked about funding through IAJE for grants to assist in bringing professionals to Michigan public schools.  B. Coyle responded that, yes, it is possible and IAJE National does have some monies to tap into.
  • B. Nixon remarked that it would be great to take the IAJE Michigan reading band and perform more often and perhaps give some clinics.   K. Dobreff, M. Flaherty and R. Casteel offered some possible performance ideas and venues.

IAJE Michigan and MMC:
  • B. Coyle notes we have established a dialogue with Paul Stanifer (MSBOA) about a possible day during MMC that would emphasize jazz topics (improvisation, rhythm section, education information, etc.).

B. Coyle thanked all in attendance.  Meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Scott Cowan
IAJE Michigan Secretary
