IAJE Toronto 2008Situated on Front Street, the stately Fairmont Royal York Hotel appears bottom right * State Educators and Student Musicians Highlight * * Annual Global Jazz Conference Jan 9 - 12 * * Full Schedule Just Released * TORONTO, Dec. 28, 2007 – Time to fire up your jazz engine....it's IAJE time. Getting a leg up on the new year transition means planning for all things jazz and IAJE Toronto, as in the 4-day international jazz education conference. The final schedule has finally rolled out after much anticipation. A quick glance confirms a whirlwind week of IAJE arrives in less than 3 weeks for loads of registered guests and devoted attendees. The multicultural Toronto downtown tourism serves up a sterling entertainment mix for professional musicians, jazz educators, students, and patrons from many corners of the globe. The 35th IAJE International Conference, acknowledged as the largest annual gathering of the global jazz community, convenes January 9 - 12, 2008. Two downtown hotels, the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and the Intercontinental Toronto Centre Hotel, co-host all conference activities including clinics, workshops, panel discussions, research presentations, artist and clinician showcase performances, and awards presentations. The Metro Toronto Convention Centre will also host conference events in addition to one major conference attraction -- the expansive IAJE trade show exposition hall. A persual of the conference schedule shows these events as major highlights:
Last January IAJE Michigan members represented the Great Lakes state with distinction. Feedback from many attendees revealed our unit chapter educators and students at the conference garnered rave reviews. While state representatives made their mark in the Big Apple, IAJE Michigan eyes another stellar imprint with our host Canadian jazz neighbor, IAJE Canada. Experienced IAJE conference attendees can attest to the welcome, fever-pitch mode in jazz overload, from early morning through latenight hours. The non-stop challenge is navigating through a multitude of student and professional artist performances presented between two host hotels on various floors. The range of jazz styles presented in conference rooms, expansive 3,000-seat ballrooms, or hotel concourse areas, guarantees an invigorating variety of excitement. Transportation ia a genuine perk in downtown Toronto. Along with the 24-hour subway system, a downtown shuttle makes movement between the Fairmont Royal York and Intercontinental Toronto Centre hotels pleasureful. Daily conference events, (concerts, research papers, clinics, panel workshops, meetings) begin each day at 9 a.m. and evening concerts push beyond midnight. Deciding what to hear and where to be at any given hour calls creates multiple choice options. The IAJE conference makes for a stimulating jazz experience no matter where you are. After bidding Toronto bon voyage, anticipation awaits next year's conference thanks to a return to the West coast. This time IAJE 2009 heads not only west but also north. The vibrant and swinging northwest jazz scenes of Seattle, a first-time IAJE host city, will certainly lure attendees from Hawaii, Alaska, western Canada, Asia, the Pacific Rim and beyond. And so it goes.....endlessly swinging. IAJE Toronto 2008
